Rare parts, remade

Reproductions

Many cars — especially pre-war vehicles — arrive in our workshop with critical parts missing, non-original, or beyond reconditioning. Our reproduction team makes them again.

How we approach reproduction

Each reproduction begins with careful identification of materials and the sequence of operations needed to re-create the part near-indistinguishably from the original. We study surviving examples, period tooling marks, and factory drawings where available.

Improving weak points — without losing authenticity

Experience has taught us that every car has components that fail under normal use. Where authenticity allows, we improve these weak points with modern-spec equivalents (current-production bearings, upgraded sealants) while preserving original appearance. Reconditioned engines with specialist-reproduced parts routinely cover 100,000 km in regular use.

What we reproduce

  • Aesthetic trim, emblems, and ornaments
  • Body panels — full or partial
  • Soft-tops for convertibles and roadsters
  • Gaskets and seals in non-standard dimensions
  • Weak-point components (bearings, bushings, linkages)
  • Interior trim and small hardware
  • Chrome ornaments (polished, re-chromed, or reproduced)
Frequently asked

Reproductions — your questions, answered.

How do you know the reproduction matches the original?

We work from original parts (where a surviving example exists), factory drawings, period service manuals, and photographic records. Final parts are compared side-by-side with reference examples before they leave the shop.

Will a reproduced part look newer than the surrounding originals?

We match finish, patina, and tooling marks where appropriate. For Concours builds we deliberately age the part so it sits seamlessly next to surviving originals.

How long does a bespoke reproduction take?

A single trim piece can be ready in a few weeks; a full soft-top or complex panel set runs 2–4 months. We fold lead times into your overall restoration plan.

Can you reproduce parts for cars you aren't restoring?

Yes — we accept external reproduction commissions. Send photos, dimensions, and any reference material to office@oldtimer.ro.

Do you use 3D scanning and CNC?

Where the part benefits from it, yes — particularly for complex curvatures and matching-pair components. Hand-finishing always follows to preserve the right surface character.

Is a reproduced part worth less than an original?

In concours judging, originals are preferred. In collector-market pricing for a driven car, a high-quality reproduction that restores function and appearance generally adds more value than a missing or broken original.
